CONCEPT
What is an AWS Region?

ANSWER
A separate geographic area containing multiple Availability Zones. Regions are isolated from each other — data does not leave a Region unless explicitly moved. Choose based on compliance, latency, and service availability.

  1. What is an AWS Availability Zone (AZ)?

One or more discrete data centres with redundant power and networking within a Region. AZs are physically separated to prevent correlated failures. Best practice: deploy across ≥2 AZs.

  2. AWS Edge Locations

Sites used by Amazon CloudFront (CDN) to cache copies of content closer to end users. Reduces latency by serving requests from the nearest location. More edge locations than Regions.

  3. How to interact with AWS services

    1. AWS Management Console (web GUI) 2. AWS CLI (command-line tool) 3. AWS SDKs (programmatic — Python, Java, JS, etc.) 4. AWS CloudFormation / CDK (Infrastructure as Code)

  4. What is AWS Outposts?

Brings AWS infrastructure and services on-premises or to co-location facilities. Runs the same AWS APIs, tools, and hardware as in the cloud. Ideal for low-latency local processing or data residency requirements.
